Old Imperial Bar

The grand Frank-Lloyd Wright designed Imperial Hotel was a Tokyo landmark and the hotel’s Old Imperial Bar has iconic status too. Though the original structure was demolished in the 1960s, the new Imperial retained some elements of Wright’s design including the attractive if somewhat sedate bar. Hailing back to 1923, the second floor bar can’t help but evoke the between-war period and feels very much a thing of its time. Even if that inevitably means that it doesn’t have the hip edge of other Tokyo bars, its history makes it unique and it’s a superb place to while away an evening drinking superior whiskey and revelling in your surroundings.
