Offering a humidor, martini bar and fancy décor that’s a mix between a stockbroker’s luxury loft and a Wallpaper shoot, The Donnelly Group’s venture Bar None was always going to attract a moneyed yuppie crowd, and so it’s proved. Situated in the reclaimed Yaletown area, Vancouver’s Dumbo, it’s a sprawling complex with three large bars, plenty of spacious seating and a dance floor with music played by live bands or spun by house DJs. The venue is popular for film wrap parties and various media-related special events (so keep your eyes peeled, you might see someone famous), since this is the new hi-tech district too. A former warehouse, this cavernous place still has that funky, exposed-wood, bare brick industrial feel, with lots of pipework and cables in the ceiling completing the look – albeit the look of a warehouse that’s had an awful lot of money spent doing it up. Signature club cocktails include Eiffel 65 (Bombay Sapphire gin, blue curacao and sparkling wine), Bulleit for Breakfast (Bulleit bourbon, Cointreau and agave syrup) or the Cool As Aß- , which of course includes some cucumber in there, alongside the vodka and ginger beer. Not surprisingly given the thick-of-wallet crowd it tends to cater for, there’s an extensive range of champagne on offer, and a decent selection of spirits if cocktails aren’t your thing. Drinks are pricey but well poured and with three bars to choose from, easy to get hold of and if you’re too showbiz to go to the bar yourself, there’s table service on offer.
