The Spirit House

Located in a gorgeous home in Vientiane, Laos, The Spirit House is a dazzling combination of restaurant and cocktail bar.
It all starts with the setting that The Spirit House resides in, as crossing its threshold is akin to entering an entirely new world compared to the busy city outside. Yes, The Spirit House feels like a true oasis, beginning with the breezy front garden fringed with palms and full of stylish benches with river views and continuing up the steps and into the house. Once inside, you are surrounded by soft woods, bamboo, and light fixtures reminiscent of paper lanterns. In fact, this is probably exactly the type of place you expected to have drinks at when you travelled to Southeast Asia.
Speaking of the drinks, the cocktail list is awash with expertly-crafted classics and house mixes that creatively merge Eastern and Western flavors. Examples of the latter are the refreshing P&P Granite – fresh pineapple, Asian grapefruit, and Spanish sparkling wine served up frozen – The Kojiro Martini – a blend of premium British gin, a touch of dry sake, and a sliver of pickled pink ginger – and the punchy Mai Lao – fresh-squeezed pineapple juice, apricot, almond, and orange mixed with local Lao whiskey. The Spirit House also rounds out its offerings with fantastic food, served from early in the morning to way past sunset – which, incidentally, are absolutely stunning when viewed from their front terrace.
