A modern French-American bistro that has won countless awards for its contemporary comfort food classics, Mintwood Place has become so popular in Washington DC that even the President has been known to dine there. The interior is light and airy (thanks in part to the large floor-to-ceiling plate glass windows) and the rustic wooden tables and studded leather banquettes just add to the ambiance – making it the perfect place to hunker down with friends and catch up over dinner and drinks.
Speaking of dinner, Mintwood Place’s most famous dishes include a succulent steak tartare, escargot hushpuppies, Alsatian flammkuchen and a rabbit ragu, but if you’re just there for a drink, don’t miss out on an order of the blistered shishito peppers from the nibbles menu. Much like with the food, the drinks menu at Mintwood Place is an international melee of cocktails, wine and beers. As we’re suckers for a unique cocktail name (and who isn’t?), we’re particularly fond of the Manchurian Candidate – jalapeno and mandarin vodkas, orange, cucumber, ginger and elderflower – and the Foggy London Town – rooibos-infused gin, Italian aperitif, vermouth, orange and tiki bitters. There’s also some great non-alcoholic cocktails mixed with tonics, ginger beer, freshly-squeezed juices and cream soda. The wine list at Mintwood Place is extensive and always changing, but often includes a wide selection of Old and New World varieties and sparkling wines. Beers are of the craft variety, from breweries in the US and Canada, mostly served from bottles or cans.
