This deliciously elegant lounge bar slap bang in the centre of Zagreb abounds in visual detail: comfy armchairs, artfully placed potted plants and colourful scatter cushions do much to enhance the mise en scene. Its name may strike one as being a trifle Stalinist, but rest assured the only thing that is red here are the ubiquitous Marachino cherries. The keynote here is distinctly modern, not to say modernist though not aggressively so. Stylish, too. We were most taken with its bar, a giant wooden cube lit to good effect and surrounded by a chromium foot rest. Nor is it just for show. The bar tenders know their trade, so much so that they are more than capable of whipping up no fewer than thirty of the best. They are not averse to exploring new repertoire as well. So do feel free to put them through their paces. All of which means that the atmosphere here is one of smooth sophistication, making it an ideal port of call for a romantic tete a tete or indeed a night of unbridled revelry with a group of friends. Do explore the VIP nooks, adorned as they are with modern art and indeed with V.I.P’s. Hungry? Then by all means check out the dining-room from which one can get a taste of genuine Croatian fare. Incidentally, don’t confuse it with the restaurant proper which goes in for a felicitous brand of Asian-fushion cusine.
