You’re unlikely to find a bedraggled Charles Bukowski clone propping up the bar in this gleaming, golden city space (whether that’s a good thing or not, we leave to you). No, the barflies at Barfly’z are for more glamorous by far; mostly smart young professionals and an eclectic urban crowd relaxing in the warm glow of this bar’s flattering lighting. (The place takes its name not from the Bukowski tome, but from ‘the Barflies’, founded in Harry’s Bar in Paris in the twenties a group of well-seasoned travellers with refined taste, which gives you a sense of what the venue is going for). The cocktail list is long, encompassing all the usual favourites (there are over 200 cocktails on offer) and the drinks are always on the money they serve an excellent mojito. If you’re really impressed by their talents, they also run occasional mixologist courses so you can learn the art of the cocktail. Their bar snacks are also pretty decent and they do a daily changing lunch menu which features staples like noodles, salads, pasta and sandwiches. It’s also a nice spot to drop in for a coffee. The atmosphere is laid back and friendly but with a sheen of sophistication, while the design of the place, though contemporary and striking (check out that ceiling!), doesn’t dominate and the toilets are pretty cool too! Should you be a sports fan, the venue screens all national Swiss football games and other major events with Swiss elements, so you can go be patriotic in style.
