Jules Verne Panorama Bar

No prizes for guessing that the big selling point for this bar is its view, though to find the place you may need to do a little exploring. To get to the Jules Verne Panorama Bar you must first pass through Zurich’s Brasserie Lipp and then catch the elevator to the 11th floor. There you’ll find a space decked out in homage to Verne’s vision of the future (with nods aplenty to 20,000 Leagues and 80 Days), with a wonderful view of the city skyline and the lake that’s as striking at night, when the city lights come on, as it is during the day. Popular with 30 and 40-somethings, it’s a lively spot, with music playing; perhaps more a place to visit with a bunch of friends than to take a date for a quiet drink. There’s a decent selection of wines from an appropriately globe-hopping menu, and the bar offers a good range of cocktails that includes both the classics and some more inventive takes, though a glass of fizz is always a popular option since a view like this is worth celebrating. Food isn’t much to write home about there’s a decent selection of bar bites on offer and they also do lunch (though it’s worth reserving a table if you’re planning to go at lunchtime). But it’s not that food that’s the attraction here, it’s those fantastic views, so the best way to make the most of it is to pop in for a cocktail or some champagne before heading off into the evening to enjoy the rest of your night.
