Part of the successful Bindella Group, owners of a number of restaurants in the city as well as around the world, this airy elegant restaurant-cafe-bar has a wonderful old world air. High ceilings and slender pillars, large windows and white table cloths add to its considerable appeal, while diners are watched by arty sculptures, evidence of the Group’s stated commitment to support the arts and local artists. There’s also an outdoor space for when the weather is warmer, to make the most of the pleasant setting. The staff are attentive and efficient and the food is Italian and excellently executed, though expect ‘high end’ Italian rather than the hearty, rustic dishes you’d find in a local trattoria. Try the homemade veal ravioli (veal is something of a speciality here) or the lemon risotto with prawns, or one of the top quality steak dishes, accompanied by a glass of something delicious from a well-chosen wine list. The coffee, too, is some of the best in town. It’s also a great spot in which to grab a drink, what with its superb views of the Grossmuenster, and is a popular place for shoppers to unwind don’t be surprised if you see your fellow patrons loaded down with bags bearing expensive brand names. It opens late so is as ideal for a late night nightcap as it is for an early evening aperitif. Chic, stylish (and accordingly priced to match) this is one of the most agreeable spots in the city, even if for most people it’s an occasional rather than a regular treat.
