Cape Town has one of the liveliest cultural scenes in Africa. The city is famed for its hospitality and is packed with trendy establishments in which you can sample it. We can only recommend that you start your nighttime adventures by hitting Long Street. Located in the City Bowl section of town, this 2-mile strip is a major bohemian hangout spot and the city’s oldest party street. From indie shops and quirky cafes to eclectic eateries, cool bars and lively clubs, this vibrant area is great to explore from daytime to evening. Once the sun sets behind the mountain, the activity starts bubbling up, making this the perfect place for a colorful night out on the town.

For something more upscale, check out Camps Bay. Its namesake beach is famous for its pristine white sands, natural rock tidal pool and stunning views of the Twelve Apostles mountains. Check out the shops at the nearby Promenade Mall before catching a play at the intimate Theatre on the Bay. Then take your pick among the many chic seafood restaurants, chill cafes and breezy cocktail lounges, sit back, and enjoy the view.

Another great option is the V&A Waterfront, a lively 300-acre harbor and leisure area with views on Table Mountain. This popular retail, dining and entertainment district draws over 23 million visitors each year and features museums, design shops, gift stores, and a vibrant restaurant and bar scene. The presence of attractions such as the Two Oceans Aquarium and the Cape Wheel ride also make it very family-friendly.

Want to venture off the beaten path? Then why not head up to Noordhoek for a horseback ride on the beach, followed by a wine tasting and rustic-chic dinner at the Cape Point Vineyards? Take a scenic ride down the coastline on Champan’s Peak Drive for some dramatic views, and discover Noordhoek Farm Village and its cute coffee shops, bakeries and pubs.

Finally, if you’re visiting during the summer season, make sure you catch a Sunday summer picnic concert at the gorgeous Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. The weekly event brings together an eclectic roster of musicians of all genres, from rock and jazz to electro, including some of South Africa’s most famous artists and several international stars. Pack some snacks and a bottle of wine, sit down on the grass and enjoy the cool festival vibes with the forest as a backdrop.
