There’s no denying it, Copenhagen’s bars are as effortlessly cool as the city itself. To start, nestled in the heart of chic Indre By (the historic city center and heart of the capital) are a myriad of intimate bars offering a homey, cosy feel – as if you were settling down for the evening in your own living room. In the warmer months, the many sunny terraces will let you take in the colorful architecture and über-stylish people-watching, refreshing cocktail in hand.

Next up, Nyhavn is the place to go to score some major Insta points. One of the city’s most iconic spots, the New Harbor is surrounded by gorgeous, brightly colored 17th and early 18th century townhouses and a multitude of cute cafes, bars and restaurants. The area is also famous for its canal which houses many historical wooden ships. Just a stone’s throw from Indre By, Nyhavn is also only a short distance from Christianshavn, which is next on our list.

One of the coolest neighborhoods in town, Christianshavn is composed of a series of small man-made islands built in the early 17th century. The area is dominated by canals lined with charming houseboats and, as such, it is the part of town with the most nautical feel. It is also known for its hip bars, shops and cafes, the buzzing Copenhagen Street Food market and, most famously, Freetown Christiania. This autonomous bohemian community lives by its own rules and offers a wide and eclectic choice of restaurants, bars, art galleries and live music venues.

Then head over to Vesterbro to discover Copenhagen’s creative side. Home to young artists, designers and photographers, the city’s meatpacking district is also the best neighborhood for nightlife. What used to be the city’s red light district is now brimming with hipster bars and eateries, cool vintage stores and independent labels, stylish hotels and trendy art galleries. You’ll also find a choice of concert venues and nightclubs to dance the night away.

Finish by visiting Nørrebro, a hip, multicultural area that’s big with the young crowd. Here, you’ll find tons of mouthwatering restaurants, trendy bars and cafes, hip indie shops and vibrant creative spaces. Keep your eyes open for the colorful street art, and make sure you take a stroll down the lush green alleys of Assistens Cemetery, where Hans Christian Andersen and Søren Kierkegaard are buried. One of Copenhagen’s most popular hangout spots, the gorgeous graveyard is also a beloved public park and cultural site where concerts, theatre performances and other events take place throughout the year.
