Bars in Oxford
Just a little lower than those dreaming spires of Oxford, there is a thriving nightlife scene waiting to be discovered. For a place with eccentric intellectual residents (and just as eccentric landmarks), check out the Headington Shark. Expect a nightlife that is full of surprises. With a large student population and many young professionals, a night out here is often innovative and fun.
Students gather near the Cowley Road area, where pubs and bars are diverse and offer live music. Check out Café Tarifa which successfully creates a year out backpacking vibe with incense and booze, transporting you to a beach bar hang out on some far-off shore. For a more glamorous night out, the Jericho area is renowned for its classy cocktail bars and top-notch eateries. A popular hang out in this area is Freud’s. It’s located in an old church, now filled with fairy lights and disco balls, and we love their cocktail offers. Also in this area is retro-haven Raoul’s; don’t miss their Wham Bar Collins. In the city centre, expect more bars and clubs than pubs, but try to make it to Angel’s, a 1950s-style cocktail bar with a drinks menu to savour.
