Top bars in Rome
Nightlife might not be the first thing to spring to mind when you think about the Italian capital but the late-night bar scene in Rome is not one to be missed. In true Italian fashion, the bars and clubs don’t really start to heat up until well after 8pm. For a real Roman night out, head down to Piazza Navona– the neighbourhood is lively and full of wine bars, and locals and tourists rub shoulders well into the night. If cocktails and aperitivo are your preferred poison, then the ultra-cool Freni e Frizoni next to the river is the perfect choice for you. Why not start your night there before venturing further into the Trastevere area? Wine bars offering wine by the glass and an assortment of small plates abound, and if you’re seeking beer, places like Ma Che Siete Venuti A Fà? are putting craft beer on the map with literally hundreds of brews to choose from.
There are few true nightclubs to choose from but once you’ve had your fill of wine and cheese in Trastevere, just hop on the number 3 or 75 tram to Marmorata/Galvani where you can let your hair down at haunts such as La Cabala or the sleek Akab Club.
