Fashion, design, gastronomy, and a kick-ass cocktail scene to boot, Stockholm’s really got it all. Creative, sensorial and experimental are only a few words to describe the city’s artful approach to mixology.

Sleek lounges, cool speakeasies and artisanal cocktail joints abound in what could easily be considered Europe’s coolest capital, so you can imagine how hard it was picking only 5.

Here’s our selection.

This trendy venue has been a World’s 50 Best regular for a few years now, so you know it’s gonna be good. Alongside the award-winning cocktail bar, you’ll also find a barbershop, a restaurant, a wine bodega and a beer café, all in a cool and casual atmosphere combining “both rustic rurality and urban sophistication”. Sounds right up our alley!

One of the city’s most famous cocktail spots, Pharmarium is ideally located on the Old Town’s historic central square, on the site of Stockholm’s very first pharmacy opened in 1575. Styled like an opulent, Victorian-style opium den, this is the perfect spot to bring a date. Striking the perfect balance of experimental and sophisticated, the cocktail menu is a journey in itself. Try pairing your poison of choice with its perfectly matched dish, you’ll be in for a real treat.

A bar called Gemma

If you’re wondering who Gemma is, the name stands for “Generosity”, “Emotional”, “Mindful”, “Multilateral” and “Artisan”, which are the five words that encapsulate the owners’ philosophy. A true labor of love, this literal gem won Best New Bar and Best Cocktail Bar at the 2019 and 2020 Bartender’s Choice Awards, and just one look at their extensive cocktail menu will tell you why. Skillfully mixed using the highest quality, and sometimes unexpected, ingredients in carefully thought out combinations, their creative craft cocktails are something to write home about.

Lucy’s Flower Shop

This intimate basement bar hidden behind an abandoned florist shop is an experience for all the senses. Helmed by some of Stockholm’s most esteemed bartenders, Lucy’s Flower Shop is a brilliant modern speakeasy where unique flavors, innovative processes and the utmost attention to detail combine to create drinks that are perfectly balanced and nothing short of outstanding. Seats are limited and in high demand, so make sure you book in advance.

Their website couldn’t sum it up better: We like to play with flavours and senses, but also atmosphere and ambiance, to create an experience that is a little bit different than your ordinary.”. This pocket-sized venue offers original craft cocktails in a friendly, buzzy atmosphere, complete with a chill game room upstairs. Come here if you’re after something fun and authentic – you might even make some new friends!
