8 unmissable themed bars from around the world

Themed evenings out have always been popular. Themed bars, however, are something of a recent phenomenon. If you’re a Whovian, a Trekkie, or you’ve just binge watched a cult series such as Breaking Bad or Peaky Blinders, we’ve got the best themed bars from around the world just for you.

1. Scum and Villainy Cantina, Los Angeles, CA, United States

Star Wars fans, behold the nerd bar of your dreams, where their attention to detail should please even the most dedicated enthusiasts. This bar doesn’t discriminate, though, and regularly hosts nights for sci-fi aficionados whatever their creed, like their regular “Geeks who Drink” pub quiz nights and “Cosmic Karaoke”.

2. Peaky Blinders Bar, Liverpool, United Kingdom

Fans of the show will love the industrial era decor in this themed bar. Sip on period-inspired cocktails and spot actors dressed as characters from the show wandering through the bar. Visit their website to find out which live bands are scheduled for your visit.

3. The Sherlock Holmes, London, United Kingdom

This Victorian-era traditional pub even has a small set upstairs saved from a Sherlock Holmes movie, which you can visit free of charge. Their old-school pub lunch menu is nostalgic and tasty; it’s futile to resist their scotch egg starters.

4. The Shire, Killarney, Ireland

Lord of the Rings fans will love this cozy pub, where draught beers are inspired by LOTR characters and there is even a hobbit hole archway. Try out their Shire Burger and wash it down with a Gandalf Ale. Live traditional Irish folk music and local bands keep it lively.

5. ABQ, London, United Kingdom

This Breaking Bad-inspired pop-up bar set in an RV was a star attraction in East London when it first launched. Its success was so resounding that it has since moved into a permanent address in Hackney. Have fun like you never did in school by visiting this detailed replica of Walt and Jesse’s chemistry lab and “cook up” your own molecular cocktails in test tubes and petri dishes. The  concept in its traveling pop-up version will return to Paris from June 24 to August 29, 2020.

6. The Lockhart, Toronto, Canada

Inspired by the Harry Potter novels, this cozy venue proves that the famous sorcerer’s universe is not just for kids. The compact interior makes subtle aesthetic nods to the Harry Potter world, and its “Gin Weasley” and “Better Beer” concoctions are as delicious as they are pertinent.

7. H.R. Giger Bar, St. Germain, Switzerland

H.R. Giger was the artist who led the special effects team on Alien, so if you ever wondered what it would be like to have a drink inside an alien, this bar is worth a visit. The awe-inspiring interior alone is worth the trip. It’s located next to the H.R. Giger Museum as well. Finish off your out of this world experience with an absinthe or two.

8. The Way Station, Brooklyn, New York, United States

This self-proclaimed “nerdvana” is a homage to all things Doctor Who and comes complete with a Tardis. Try out your favorite Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver if you’re feeling daring. They also regularly hold themed evenings ranging from Game of Thrones to astronomy on tap.

Whether you are a superfan or not, we think themed bars just have that special something that will make your night out a little more memorable. Now go and find your mecca!
