Our top bars in Chelsea

Located on Manhattan's Lower West Side, Chelsea is a cosmopolitan neighbourhood where the high society of uptown and the rugged charms of downtown coalesce.

Bohemian meets bourgeois at this vibrant and arty neighborhood. Mingle with creatives and business people at chic cocktail hangouts or drink and dance to your favorite tunes in the area’s many LGBT bars. A lot of the best venues in Chelsea are a subterranean affair – head down below the city streets and stumble across prohibition-style haunts serving up innovative drinks lists and fusion bar snacks. Their proximity to the Meatpacking District and Greenwich Village make Chelsea bars a fantastic place to start or end your evening in the Big Apple.

Bathtub Gin is a gin lover’s paradise. Despite the building’s appearance, which leads passersby to think it’s nothing more than an artisan coffee shop, your first step inside will whisk you back in time with its vintage décor and, you guessed it, plenty of gin cocktails to boot. The innovative bar snacks are also delicious.

Another Chelsea favorite that typifies the vibe of the area is The Tippler. Located directly beneath the much-admired Chelsea Market, its secluded location might make it seem like a well-kept secret, but it gets packed every day come happy hour. Along with its superb range of cocktails with tongue-in-cheek names, you will also find excellent craft beers and deliciously indulgent bar food.

For something a bit different for the area, try Porchlight, superstar restaurateur Danny Meyer’s Southern-inspired hotspot. Cool and contemporary yet brimming with warm Southern charm, the spacious venue is perfect for after work drinks or large friends gatherings – there’s even a game room at the back! Food-wise, as expected, the menu offers a wide choice of deliciously indulgent comfort food.

Finally, if you want to impress a special someone, take them to the McKittrick Hotel’s Gallow Green. This gorgeous rooftop is one of New York City’s best hidden treasures. A verdant secret garden overflowing with lush greenery and live music in the summer, it transforms into a cosy lodge complete with flannel-wrapped bunk beds and crackling fire pits in the winter months. The cocktails are chic, the brunch is delicious, but seating is limited so make sure you book ahead!
