The first season of House of the Dragon is coming to an end, with this Sunday’s ninth and penultimate episode finally kicking the Dance of the Dragons — the full-blown Targaryen civil war that is the object of the series — into gear.
If you’re a fan like us, then you know this absolutely calls for a viewing party. Impress your guests with these easy to make cocktails inspired by the name of the book saga and the main protagonists’ house sigils.
Fire and Blood
Combine 1 oz white rum, 1 oz dark rum, 1/3 oz orgeat syrup, 1/3 oz cane sugar syrup, and the juice of half a lime, freshly squeezed in a shaker with ice. Shake well until cold and strain into a rocks glass over ice. Hollow out half a passion fruit into the drink and stir. Garnish with the emptied passion fruit half filled with triple sec or Cointreau and set on fire. Serve immediately.
Targaryen
Add 1 1/3 oz blanco tequila, 2/3 oz creme de cassis, 2/3 oz simple syrup, 3 1/3 oz blackberry juice, the juice of one lemon quarter, freshly squeezed and a sprig of rosemary to an ice-filled shaker. Shake well until cold, strain and serve into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with fresh rosemary and serve.
Velaryon
Combine 1 1/3 oz pastis, 1/3 oz mint syrup or creme de menthe and 1/3 oz blue curaçao into an ice-filled balloon or hurricane glass. Top with chilled water to taste, stir and serve.
Hightower Add 1 1/3 oz vodka, 2/3 oz triple sec or Cointreau, one quarter of a cucumber, freshly juiced using a juicer (or blended with a bit of chilled water and filtered), the juice of one lemon quarter, freshly squeezed, and a handful of basil leaves to a shaker with ice. Shake well until cold, strain into an ice-filled highball glass and top with club soda.
