These silky smooth drinks for the colder months are like a hug for your tastebuds.

Made from the fruit of the Marula tree, South African Amarula cream liqueur has a distinctive flavor featuring notes of caramel, pepper, and a hint of citrus.

Here are 3 cocktail recipes where it really shines, doubling as a perfect after-dinner indulgence for these cold winter months.

Don Pedro

A traditional, uniquely South African cocktail starring Amarula front and center.

Add 87ml Amarula, 225g vanilla ice cream and 60ml double cream to a powered blender. Blend until smooth and serve with grated chocolate to garnish.

Red Velvet Cake

Amarula paired with berry vodka, white chocolate and beetroot juice? Yes please.

Combine 30ml Amarula, 20ml red berry vodka, 20ml beetroot juice, 20ml white chocolate syrup and 10ml grenadine in a shaker tin filled two-thirds of the way with ice. Cover with a strainer and transfer the ingredients from one shaker to another, spacing the shakers as far apart as possible and retaining the ice cubes with the strainer. This  technique is called “throwing” and must be repeated several times so that the cocktail is aerated and that all the flavors mix and develop. Fine strain into a Martini glass and garnish with vanilla foam.

Hot Butter Rum

A delicious warm cocktail, perfect to enjoy by the fire.

Fold 25ml rum, 1/2 tbsp butter, 1/2 tbsp Demerara sugar, and orange zest and cinnamon powder to taste in a mixing bowl. Transfer this rum batter mix to a latte glass. Top with boiling water, stir well, then float 50ml Amarula on top and garnish with a cinnamon stick.
